Quick Facts

Why Private Tuition, does it work?

Level of Attention from Educator

The primary difference between a group tuition class (or classes in school) and a private tuition session is the level of attention received by each student. In a classroom style lesson, a single tutor caters to between 10 to 40 students at once. As such, if a student is quicker or slower than the rest in his learning pace, or if he has some doubts in a certain topic, it becomes difficult for the tutor to attend to him quickly or effectively without disrupting the rest of the class.

Unique Learning Styles of every Student

Different students have different learning styles. In a class with 10+ students, it is often the case that everyone has their own unique learning styles. For instance, there are fast learners, and there are students who prefer a slower but more detailed pace of learning. Even if the educator is highly qualified, it is often difficult for him to cater to the different learning patterns of all his students, due to the very limited time of each lesson.

Private Tuition, Pros and Cons

Where group tuition or school classes fail, private tuition aims to fulfil. In a one-to-one private tuition class, the job of the tutor is to give undivided and specialized attention to the student in question. The tutor will match the learning pace and speed of the student, and tackle his academic weaknesses systematically. A good tutor will also inspirationally serve as a mentor to the students, to guide him/her in issues beyond academics, much like how an elder brother/sister takes care of their siblings.

We have seen countless success stories from our clients pertaining to improvement in students' grades. Tutors will do their best to guide students under their wing, but it is also important to note that the students themselves must be willing to learn and cooperate with the tutor for any real improvements to take place.

While private tuition may be more conducive to a child's learning, it is also more expensive than a traditional group tuition class. We encourage parents to take their educational budgets into serious consideration before deciding whether to engage a private tutor or a tuition centre. Also, the quality of the tutor is often a concern. While there are many sincere tutors who are dedicated to helping their students improve, there is also a handful of "black-sheep" without many credentials who simply sees tuition as an avenue to make quick money. This is a serious issue, and thus the agency serves as a regulating body to "filter" the tutors' quality.

The Private Tuition Industries, and role of Tuition Agencies

The truth is that the tuition industry in Singapore is highly unregulated. While there are many sincere tutors who can certainly help the grades of their students, there are also many who see tuition as an avenue to make easy money. This category of individuals frequently does not have the ability or intention to help their students improve, but instead sits through the lesson without adding much value to the student's learning (For eg, simply asking students to do homework during lesson etc). Their engagement waste precious money for parents and time for the students.

The tuition agencies exist as a regulating body to introduce only quality tutors for students. We take our client's education seriously, and we believe that every child deserve the best educational attention possible. Our staffs are trained to assess the tutors' credentials, track records, qualifications and personalities on a case-to-case basis before we determine if we are confident of recommending him/her for the job.

We daren't claim that we are perfect, but you can be sure we do our best.
